Bible Study: The Reason for Our Hope

Updated: Sep 26

Hi, everyone! Just a quick reminder that our Bible study starts up again this evening at the Santics. Tonight's welcome back time will be filled with tours, food, singing, prayer, and some great get-to-know-you, seeker-friendly questions for all of us. And remember to please bring a Bible or download a Bible app on your phone.

Tonight, we will simply be getting to know each other's journeys while also learning about the new series we will be looking at between now and Advent, Living Faith: Discovering City Centre's Expression of Christianity.

Verse of the Day: "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1Peter 3:15

Questions

  • In the passage above, Peter tells us to share the hope we have—and we would love to hear your story of hope, and how you ended up here! So let's start easy: Tell the group about the first time you remember coming to City Centre Church (or Whalley Presbyterian!) and what your experience was. Were you brought by your parents? Maybe a friend invited you? Do you remember meeting anyone in particular? What happened...and what brought you back?

  • What is your favorite Bible verse—and why? Why do you think the 'reason' is as to why it connects with you? Do you remember how you first encountered that verse? Was it during a significant life event (wedding, baptism, funeral, etc.), a sermon, or maybe it was in a personal reading time? How did the passage speak to you?

  • What role has the Bible played in your life? When you were a child, was it read to you—or is today your first time that you're holding one? And to be clear, there are no 'wrong' answers here. As a matter of fact, if this is your first time reading it, please let us know!

  • How do you hope to grow through this Bible study group?

  • In what ways have you seen the Bible’s teachings influence your everyday life?

  • In the passage above, Peter speaks about being able to give an answer for the hope you have. What is the reason for the hope you have?
