Questions for Reflection and Discussion
- When reading a passage, it is always important to ask: For whom was it written? When and Where?
So, with that in mind, who are these shepherds in verse 1? How did they destroy and scatter? Why are God so harsh against the people that does this?
- Dissect the hope given in verse 3…what verbs describe God’s promised actions? How do we need to be gathered, brought back to our fold and be fruitful? Is it still a hopeful message or do we need something else as a source of hope in our time?
- What does a good shepherd do according to verse 4?
- Considering that Jesus called himself the Good Shepard in the gospel of John, that David said God is our Shepard in Psalm 23 and that the prophesy in Jeremiah 23: 5 seemed to be fulfilled by Jesus if you look at Luke 1 vs 68-79, what is the right way to think about leadership and modern day pastors? What is their role and what are the limits of their role?
- In verse 6 the promise is that Israel will live in safety. What makes you feel safe/unsafe? Is it possible to feel unsafe and yet be safe and vica versa? How?
