Questions for Discussion
- Elijah and his people enter an era of drought/scarcity. What period in your life do you recall as a period of scarcity? What was your experience of God during that time?
- What do you know about Ravens? Do you think it might have served a purpose that God specifically choose this bird as a form of provision delivery? (v5)
- God’s next form of provision is a widow. What similarities is there between a widow and a raven?
- What is unusual in the first contact between the widow and the prophet?
- What is a scarcity mindset? Do you think this widow had one? How does one escape a scarcity mindset?
- Elijah response to this woman was twofold. First he tells her not to be afraid. It is said that we know people by getting to know what they fear. What does people you are in contact with on a daily basis, fear most? What do you fear?
- Then Elijah tells the woman to go make him something…do you judge this as selfish? Why (not)?
- Did you ever experience one crises fading in light of a more recent one? How can one crises prepare us for the next?
- Elijah acted in an unconventional way but a life giving way nevertheless. Why could something unconventional be life giving?
- Look at verse 24. How will people know you and me are men/women of God and that the word of the Lord is the truth?
