Friendship
John 15: 12-17
- How many close friends do you have? Why would you describe them as friends?
- Aristotle said that most friendships are based on need and pleasure and fleeting. Do you agree? Why? Is afrienship based on need and pleasure wrong?
- Aristotle placed a high premium on self-friendship. A person could not be a friend without being a friend of him/herself. What does healthy self-friendship look like? What does selfish friendship look like?
- Do you think Jesus’s definition of love in action in verse 13 is a realistic one?
- What are some of the ingredients of Friendship that Jesus mentions in John 15: 12-17?
- What assurance is there in the fact that we are chosen (and did not choose Jesus according to 15: 16.
- What does it mean to be a friend of God? How is it different from being a fan of God?
- What role does hospitality play in starting and maintaining friendships?
- The quality of a friendship is the sum of small commitments made and kept over time form both sides. Discuss.
- What do you need to do more or less of when it comes to friendship in your life?
