Prayer

As always, we start with prayer. Is there anything we as a group can pray for concerning you or someone close to you? Also, are there any praise reports from the last week?

Praise

You Crown the Year

You crown the year with Your goodness

You answer us with awesome deeds

Your hope resounds God our Saviour

To distant lands and farthest seas

O paint the fields bright and golden

Drench the harvest with Your rain

God’s river filled with living water

That flows to all as You ordained

Praise the Name of the Lord

O my soul sing His worth

All of life join the song

Come and lift up our King

Now let the earth join the dancing

Deck her out in showers of spring

The dusk and dawn forever relay

The call to come and worship Him

Holy holy

Worthy are You Lord

All the glory

To Your Name forever

Passage

Psalm 65

Thanksgiving for Earth’s Bounty

To the leader. A Psalm of David. A Song.

Praise is due to you,

O God, in Zion,

and to you shall vows be performed,

    O you who answer prayer!

To you all flesh shall come.

When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us,

you forgive our transgressions.

Happy are those whom you choose and bring near

to live in your courts.

We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,

your holy temple.

By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance,

O God of our salvation;

you are the hope of all the ends of the earth

and of the farthest seas.

By your strength you established the mountains;

you are girded with might.

You silence the roaring of the seas,

the roaring of their waves,

the tumult of the peoples.

Those who live at earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs;

you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy.

You visit the earth and water it;

you greatly enrich it;

the river of God is full of water;

you provide the people with grain,

for so you have prepared it.

10 You water its furrows abundantly,

settling its ridges,

softening it with showers,

and blessing its growth.

11 You crown the year with your bounty;

your wagon tracks overflow with richness.

12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow;

the hills gird themselves with joy;

13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks;

the valleys deck themselves with grain;

they shout and sing together for joy.

Ponder

1 What part of this psalm/song really stands out to you and warms your heart? Why do you think it has that effect on you?

2 Verse 1 says "Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion," but the Hebrew “Praise is due” is more of a silenced waiting. Even last Sunday, our worship was loud and strong, but this is more quiet...but also equally worshipful. How could the idea of ‘praise in silence’ challenge our modern ideas of worship?

3 Verse 2 calls God "O you who answer prayer…all flesh shall come." This is not only the God who hears us, but the God who hears you no matter who you are, as you are drawn to Him. When was one of the first times that you saw a person worship the Trinity in a way/garb/position far different than your way of worship—and how did that change your perspective on worship?

4 Verse 4 states "Happy/Blessed are those whom you choose and bring near." When you hear that you are ‘chosen’ by God, and that God has drawn you near, what’s the first feeling of worship that you experience—and why?

5 Turning to verse 5, God is praised for His awesome deeds…but God is also “the hope of all the ends of the earth.” How do you see this story of hope happening through the rest of Scripture?

 6 Verses 11-13 show all of creation joining into worship: for the wheels tracks of wagons that are imprinting on the earth's floor (filled with blessing) to the meadows and valleys, it all shows an overflowing of blessings and worship with everyone—and everything. As all creation worships, and as we are drawn into worship, how do we invite all of creation into this worship who are still missing?
