Prayer
As always, we start with prayer. Can we pray for you—or someone close to you whom you love? Also, do you have any answered prayer from over the summer that you can let us know about?
Quick Bible Study Reminders for the Year
1. We want to hear your thoughts—even if you’re new to all of this. Actually, especially if you're new to all of this
2. Please try and stay on topic :D
3. If a person is speaking, please allow them to finish their thought
4. Please only speak about people we know who are here in this the room
5. We are all here to grow; we are not required to come with perfect answers
6. If possible, please come to our Wednesday nights with the questions loaded on your phone/screen or already printed out
Praise
The Goodness of God
I love You, Lord, For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up, Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
All my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice, You have led me through the fire
In darkest night, You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father, I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
With my life laid down, I surrendered now, I give You everything
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
Passage
Psalm 27 Of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh—
my adversaries and foes—
they shall stumble and fall.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.
4 One thing I asked of the Lord;
this I seek:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.
5 For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will set me high on a rock.
6 Now my head is lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
8 “Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!”
Your face, Lord, do I seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me.
Do not turn your servant away in anger,
you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off; do not forsake me,
O God of my salvation!
10 If my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will take me up.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
12 Do not give me up to the will of my adversaries,
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they are breathing out violence.
13 I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
Ponder
1 Is there anything from the song or from the passage itself that has moved you in a positive way? If so, what part?
2 The psalm begins, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” What image comes to your mind when you think of God as “light”? Per the sermon on Sunday, has that image meant different things at different stages of your life?
3 Verse 3 says, “Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear.” What kinds of “armies” or challenges do people in Surrey/LML (or in your own life) face today?
4 In verse 4, David longs to “dwell in the house of the Lord…to behold the beauty of the Lord.” What do you think it means to see God’s beauty? How have you experienced that? How?
5 The psalm shifts between confidence (vv. 1–6) and struggle (vv. 7–12). How do you relate to this tension between faith and fear in your own walk with God?
6 The final verse says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage.” What does “waiting on the Lord” look like in practice to you?
